"A Generation in a Jar" blowing into the mainstream!

The Lips - A Generation in a Jar
"A Generation in a Jar" blowing into the mainstream!

"We've only been playing together for 2 months," Anthony M. Laido, the front man of 'The Lips' states. "The chemistry was always there. We've been friends for awhile, so that helps a lot."
It started last year. Anthony M. Laido called his best friend Mario Khoury, (who resides in Orlando, Florida during the year to attend college).
"Hey man, I want you to drum for me," Laido claimed. A simple idea started by the two has formed into a cult movement. 'The Lips' have been hastily gaining momentum on a day-to-day basis, thanks to online platforms, and the old strategies of grassroots marketing.

"We honestly didn't think we would be getting the recognition we have been receiving. I'm a writer first and an entertainer second. I'm not saying that I don't perform well live. I'm just never going to be one of those guys that dances around and tries to get the room to clap like a jackass. If people like the music, they like the music. There are so many local bands that already think they are celebrities and it makes both of us sick. If you are opening for a popular band, it means nothing. If you are playing at 'The Bitter End,' it means nothing. It's all about submitting to record labels, gaining connections and networking. A lot of what we have accomplished, I am very proud of because of the constant work I have put in to it. Most kids were out trying to get laid in school and whatnot, but I was home alone working on songs, promoting, drinking alone, and only focusing on my dream. It's very strange seeing it pick up, honestly."

Let's put it this way. I recently purchased the album, being I became a fan instantly after a friend told me to check them out. I rarely say this about an unsigned band, but WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS BAND DOING UNSIGNED!?!?! Seriously!!! This music is unbelievable. From the opening pop style of 'White Lights' all the way down to the closing folk sounds of 'Keys Open Doors,' it really isn't a wonder as to why this band has been garnering fans, unrealistic album reviews, and offers from labels left and right.

Mario Khoury: Live drummer
"We've probably been offered nearly 20 label deals in the last two months alone. Most have been indie, and a few were some major connections we made, but we decided to stay 'DIY' for right now. You have to play the cards right, because music is a business and people tend to forget that. People think that you become a sellout when you start making millions, but the fact is that you just want to be able to make your passion your career."

The live shows aren't as crude as one would insist they are. Sure, both of the members enjoy a drink of 10. Sure both of the members have delved into drugs, Sure both of the members have been too fucked up, that they couldn't even perform. But when they are on...they are ON!

"We're honestly not proud of most of the shows on the tour so far. We've had a few set that we killed it, and we've had a few sets that we just literally couldn't play. Honestly, that's not cool. Every show you have should be played like it's your last, so we kind of cut down on the partying until after the shows as of late."

"A Generation in a Jar" was released on May 4th, (a month after the single 'White Lights) and has already been praised by critics everywhere.

"It's crazy. We are getting our album reviewed on absolutepunk.net, and we have received a 10 out of 10 on 6 out of the 7 sites we submitted to. We received a 9.8 on the other site."

"It's very seldom you discover a band like 'The Lips.' It's very seldom you find a band that has all the tools. It's very seldom that you listen to a 22 song debut album, and find yourself having withdraws from turning it off. It's very seldom that you meet a band like this." --Our editor. *****

Check them out before they are too famous! Enjoy the bragging rights to your friends about how you knew about them first!
